The Mount Vernon Farmers Market has announced its opening for the season on Saturday, May 3, 2025. The market will offer a variety of local goods each Saturday through October. This announcement was made in a press release on April 10, 2025.
According to the Mount Vernon Farmers Market, it features a range of locally produced goods such as fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs, honey, maple syrup, baked goods, jams, flowers, and personal care items. All products are grown or made within a 25-mile radius of downtown Mount Vernon. This geographic requirement aims to support the local economy and provide shoppers with fresh, seasonal food options.
For the current season, more than 25 vendors are participating in the farmers market. These include both returning sellers and new additions. The market states that all produce vendors must complete Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) training through Ohio State University (OSU) Extension Knox County to ensure safe handling and hygiene. Cottage food vendors must adhere to specific labeling regulations that include the product name, ingredient list, net weight, and the name and address of the producer.
The market also provides multiple food access programs. Shoppers using Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits can exchange their card for market tokens at the information booth; these tokens can be used on any eligible food item. Additionally, the Produce Perks program offers a dollar-for-dollar match up to $25 for fruits and vegetables. Later in the season, the Knox County Task Force for Older Adults will distribute produce tokens to residents aged 60 and older. Community members can stay informed through the market’s Facebook and Instagram pages or by listening to monthly updates on the AM Knox County radio show on WMVO.
The Mount Vernon Farmers Market operates Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon from May through October at Public Square in Mount Vernon, Ohio. According to its Facebook page, no crafts are sold at this market.
