Youngstown State University (YSU) has announced that Aicha Sawaneh has been recognized on the President's List for academic excellence. The announcement was made in a press release on February 24, 2025, through the YSU Merit Page.
According to Merit Pages, Aicha Sawaneh, a Youngstown State University student from Freetown, is majoring in communication studies with a focus on social media. She was named to the university’s Fall 2024 President’s List and also earned Dean’s List recognition for academic excellence. In addition to her achievements, she previously received an International Scholar Scholarship as a pre-law major.
The university awards President’s List recognition to full-time undergraduate students who achieve a 4.0 grade point average while completing at least 12 semester hours of credit in a given term. This distinction is granted only at the conclusion of the fall and spring semesters. Part-time students may also qualify if they maintain a 4.0 GPA and accumulate a minimum of 12 semester hours across both terms, according to YSU.
Courses with grades of I, AU, CR, CRX, and PR do not count toward the required credit hours but do not disqualify students, provided they meet the total earned credit requirement. Recipients receive an official certificate from the Office of the President and are formally announced on the YSU Merit Page website.
