The Mt. Vernon Yellow Jackets track and field team delivered standout performances at the Jim Lindsey Indoor Invitational on Saturday, February 8, setting new school records and securing top finishes across multiple events.
According to the event results, Naida Nougi had a record-breaking day in the girls' events. She won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 8.25 inches, surpassing her previous school record by more than a foot. Nougi also placed second in the 60-meter dash. Quinn Hardy finished fourth in the weight throw, improving her personal best by two feet.
In the boys' events, the Yellow Jackets dominated the long jump. Brady Wiles finished second with a distance of 20-5.50, Ben Fitzpatrick placed third at 20-3.25, and Maddox Baker secured fourth with a jump of 19-6.50. Fitzpatrick also won the triple jump with a mark of 39-2.25.
Dakota Wagner excelled in the shot put, finishing first with a throw of 44-5 and breaking his own school record by two feet. Logan Autherson placed seventh in this event.
On the track, Baker placed second in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 7.24 seconds. Cole Wilson finished third in the 200 meters, while Wiles won both the high jump and the 400-meter dash.
The boys’ 4x400-meter relay team also performed strongly, reducing their previous time by four seconds to finish second in the meet.
The Yellow Jackets showcased their strength and depth during this competition, with multiple athletes setting personal bests and school records. Their performances mark a strong start to the indoor track and field season.
