MVNU men fall short in five-set volleyball battle

The Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) men's volleyball team (1-3) returned to Ariel Arena for a non-conference matchup against the Hiram College Terriers (4-3) on Feb. 4.

In a five-set battle, MVNU took the opening set 25-22, but Hiram responded with a dominant 25-16 win in the second. 

The Cougars bounced back to claim the third set 25-23, yet Hiram regained momentum in the fourth, winning 25-21 to force a decisive fifth set. 

In the final set, Hiram outlasted MVNU 15-11, sealing the 3-2 match victory.

Ethan Cline led the offensive effort with 19 kills, hitting .227, while also adding an ace and 11 digs. 

Noah Wineberg contributed seven kills on a .278 hitting percentage, along with three service aces and a team-high seven block assists. 

Christian Kyer was efficient with seven kills on 14 attempts, posting a .357 hitting percentage. Tyler Shields facilitated the offense with 37 assists and chipped in a kill, an ace, and six digs. Defensively, Tyler Monnin anchored the back row with 18 digs.
