The Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) women’s basketball team (14-9, 6-7 CL) fell to Huntington University (13-10, 6-7 CL) at home by a score of 83-73 on Feb. 5.
Huntington opened strong, taking an 8-2 lead 3:38 into the first quarter.
MVNU answered the Forester run, tying the game at 10-10 with a layup from Serenitee Johnson at the 5:07 mark.
Huntington closed the quarter on a 12-7 run and led the hosts 22-17 after the first 10 minutes.
The Foresters maintained control in the second quarter and took a 36-33 lead into halftime.
MVNU opened the third period with a three from Katie Sprang to tie the game and then got another layup from Johnson to take a 38-36 lead. Angela Roshak had a big quarter, scoring 10 points to help MVNU build its lead. After three, MVNU saw itself up 61-57.
Huntington flipped the switch in the fourth quarter, slowly taking control of the game.
The Foresters outscored MVNU 26-12 in the quarter and would win by a final of 83-73.
Johnson finished with 28 points (8-21 FG, 1-3 3PT, 11-12 FT), six rebounds, three steals, and one assist.
MVNU shot just 36.6% from the floor and 22.2% from three point range.
