A free event focusing on the use of alternative feeds and the cost of production for fed cattle in 2024 will be held on Feb. 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ramser 4-H Activity Center, Mount Vernon, OH.

This year’s Cattle Feeding School will have Beef Cattle Field Specialist Garth Ruff to provide insights into the outlook for feeding beef cattle, highlighting the beef supply and industry goals for quality in the coming year.

The program will also delve into risk management and budgeting, essential aspects for cattle farmers in a fluctuating market. The OSU Farm Business Analysis Team will discuss benchmarking and long-term financial planning to help farmers make informed decisions.

Additionally, the school will feature talks from Allen Gahler, Extension Educator for Agriculture and Natural Resources at OSU Extension, Sandusky Couty and Jason Hartschuh, Dairy Management and Precision Livestock Field Specialist. Their presentations will focus on optimizing feed efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
