C. David Hollis passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 27, 2024.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, on June 14, 1945, to Clark and Helen Young Hollis, Dave grew up in Centerburg, excelling in both academics and athletics. He was honored as the recipient of the Richie Hoyt Achievement Award in 1962.

Dave attended The Ohio State University, where he forged lifelong friendships as president of the Delta Theta Sigma fraternity and courted the love of his life, Becky Wiard. After earning his master’s degree at Ohio State, he married Becky and went on to serve as a second lieutenant in Vietnam. Reflecting on his service, Dave stated, “Although I did not serve in a popular war, I am proud that I served my country.”

Following his deployment, Dave enjoyed a successful career in agricultural finance, which took him, Becky, and their two sons, Brad and Todd, across the country. No matter where they lived, Dave and Becky were actively involved in their communities, volunteering as parents and mentors. As a scoutmaster, Dave guided both sons to earn their Eagle Scout Awards and achieve inclusion in the Order of the Arrow.

After 45 years away, Dave and Becky returned to rural Ohio, where they were warmly welcomed back by friends and the community they cherished.

Dave was a devoted husband, father, and community member, known for his intelligence, hard work, and kindness. A passionate sports fan, he was often seen in retirement proudly wearing Ohio State or Elmwood (IL) Trojan apparel.

Throughout his life, Dave adhered to the principles of the Ten Commandments, the Golden Rule, and the Twelve Points of Scout Law.

At the time of his passing, Dave served as Chairman of the Board at First Federal Bank of Centerburg and as treasurer at the First Methodist Church of Centerburg.

He is survived by his loving wife, Becky; sons Brad (Erin) Hollis and Todd (Anne) Hollis; siblings Martha (Bob) Holbrook and Steve (Emily) Hollis; and grandchildren Noah, Caleb, Meg, and Alina Hollis.

A graveside service will be held at Eastview Cemetery on Thursday, October 31, at 2:00 PM ET. Following the service, the family will host a Celebration of Life.
