Michael John Cowgill, Sr., 78, of Apple Valley (Howard), passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.

He was born on June 10, 1946 in Columbus, Ohio to James and Margaret (Whetsel) Cowgill. He retired from Western Electric (Lucent) and Kroger after working two jobs for many years as an avid provider for his family.

Mike loved being a fisherman and was president aka "Mayor of Apple Valley" for the Fish Club. He was an avid softball player, and a huge Buckeye Fan. He also loved all kinds of music, and knew the words of any song that came on the radio. His family and friends knew him as the comedian who always told the best jokes and could make people laugh with his amazing sense of humor.

More than anything, his love for his wife and family shined in how he lived his life, and he will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jim. Mike is survived by loving wife of 58 years, Sandy (Lech) Cowgill; children, Mike (Julie) Cowgill, Jr., Lori (John) Ogden, Tina (Myron) Ingram, and Kevin (Dawn) Cowgill; siblings, Pat, Kathleen, Mary, Peggy (Rick), Susie (Victor), Tim (Kristen), Frank (Debe), Dan, and Vickyand Chuck Smith; grandchildren, Cody and Courtney Cowgill, Tiffany (Josh) Stempko, Justin (Nina) Ogden, Adam (Hunter) Ogden, Alessandra Odgen (William White), Amanda (Chris) Olney, Jessica (Jason) Kienbaum, and Kelly (Jake) Wickline; great-grandchildren, Elora, Asher, Arden, Salome, Gideon, Kennedy, Emory, and Berkley; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

His family received friends on Monday, July 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Cotner Funeral Home, 7369 East Main Street, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. His Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, July 30, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 11539 National Road Southwest, Pataskala, Ohio.
