Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) has announced that Marcus Whaley, Noah Humphrey, and Andrew Pfau were named the top presenters at the 2024 Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creative Work (sURC).

Whaley's research paper, titled "Interaction of Physical Factors and Sampling Methods on Assessment of Hellgrammite Populations," received recognition at the School of Natural and Social Sciences chapel, according to an MVNU press release.

According to the same source, Humphrey and Pfau, both biology pre-medical majors, presented a study called "Controlling Membrane Permeability through Protein-Lipid and Cation-Lipid Interactions." The trio participated in MVNU's Summer Program for Undergraduate Research in 2023.

The annual sURC provides students with an opportunity to present extended research projects, exemplary class assignments or other independent scholarly work, as per another MVNU press release. It offers students a comprehensive capstone experience.

The university faculty reviewed the work of 38 presenters based on the quality and sophistication of their projects as well as the clarity of their presentations. This information was also included in the MVNU press release. The symposium was attended by more than 200 faculty members, staff, students, and extended community members.
