The Mount Vernon City Council has given the green light to Safety-Service Director Tanner Salyers to procure a 2.72-acre property located at the southeast corner of the Upper Gilchrist/Yauger Roads intersection.

According to the minutes from the Mount Vernon City Council's meeting on January 22, the council voted in favor of suspending its rule for three separate readings of the resolution for this property purchase. The parcel in question is identified by number 71-00002.000.

The Knox County Auditor's online property search reveals that the parcel is currently owned by John D. and Cynthia A. Nussbaum, residents of Mount Vernon. The total tax bill due in 2024 stands at $934.48. The property saw an increase in value from $48,730 in 2022 to $63,350 in 2023, with an assessed value (35%) of $22,170.

According to the same source, the last recorded sale of this property took place in 2011 for a sum of $60,000.
