Danville quarterback Walker Weckesser has been a stud on the gridiron all season long, and by dominating in both the running and passing game he was named the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference player of the year.

“Walker has had a tremendous year with 34 Total TDs and over 2,000 total Yards,” said Coach MattBlum. “It was very special to have him be named KMAC player of the year. Walker goes to the career center and maintains above a 3.0 GPA. Furthermore, he was elected as a captain for his senior season.”

In the regular season, Weckesser was 77-for-129 for 1,179 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also ran the ball 81 times for 596 yards and 13 touchdowns. His 7.4 yards per carry and 60% completion rate were tops in the conference. He also led KMAC with 202 total points. Weckesser was second in passing touchdowns, third in passing yards and third in rushing scores.

Defensively Weckesser had four interceptions with one going for a touchdown, and a fumble recovery at the strong safety position.

While the selection did not factor in the playoffs, Weckesser has been integral in the team’s success in the postseason, as well. In the opening round against McDonald he had six total touchdowns in a blowout victory. Weckesser was 10-for-15 for 157 yards and four touchdown passes. He also had four carries for 22 yards and a pair of scores. On defense he had four tackles, all solo.

Last playoff game against Springfield he was quiet on offense in the lopsided win, but most of the game revolved around running the ball with fellow first-team All-KMAC running back Cole Delaughder. On defense, however, Weckesser lit it up with four tackles (two for a loss), and two sacks.

Weckesser is one of those players who can do it all. He has the experience, the leadership and the smarts to get the job done managing the offensive rhythm. Mix in the skills and a talented supporting cast, and you've got a player to lead the best team in the conference to an undefeated season with a conference title.
