Undefeated No. 1 Ursuline (11-0, 4-0) had no problem taking down No. 16 New Philadelphia (6-5, 5-2) jumping out to a big first half lead and never looking back in a 42-7 rout last week in the opening round of the Division III, Region 9 football tournament.

The Quakers found themselves down 35-0 at the half, with the Fighting Irish scoring eight points in the first and 28 points in the second quarter. Ursuline tacked on another seven points in the third quarter, and while New Philadelphia scored in the fourth quarter it was far too great of a deficit to mount a comeback.

The New Philadelphia touchdown was on a QB keeper by Keaton Fausel from about 12 yards out. The score capped a late drive set up by a great catch across the middle by Carson Long, and solid running by senior running back Etnie Richardson.

For Ursuline, Christian Lynch had three rushing touchdown, carrying the ball 14 times for 41 yards. Jack Ericson was 18-for-21 for 204 yards and two passing touchdowns. DC Ferrell caught six passes, one for a touchdown, and 76 yards. Tairan Davis Jr. had three catches for 20 yards and a touchdown.

Ursuline takes on No. 9 Canfield in the regional semifinals on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.
