Jean Ransom Hamilton passed away at 10:55 pm August 5, 2023 at the age of 89. Born June 21, 1934 she was the third daughter born to William Ben Lee and Lora Francis Bennington Lee out of 5 children. She was the last survivor of her family after we lost her baby brother Robert Wayne Lee in March of this year.
She married Mel Ransom on December 31,1955 and was widowed July 2, 1993 when he passed away from chemo he was getting for Non-Hodgkins Lynphoma. On October 30, 1996 she then married John Hamilton who passed away in February of 2005.
She was a bookkeeper at G.R Smith and Company for over 30 years. After retiring from there, she worked at the gas company in Bangs, Ohio before permanently retiring in 1992 after finding out she had breast cancer for the first time. She was in remission for 14 years before getting cancer again.
Their daughter Rhonda Ransom was born in August of 1956. She became her mom's constant companion after the passing of her husband John and her sister Mary Katherine Cramer moved out until a love from her past came in the picture. She had dated Vernon Keckley before she married Rhonda's dad, and they became companions until he could no longer come to see her due to his health.
She was grandma to Michaela Rutherford and Moriah and Jonathan Sechler and 3 years ago became a great grandma to Ziva Sechler and most recently Arabella Sechler born June 14th. Besides her daughter, granddaughters and great granddaughters she is survived by nieces and nephews and Sandra Lee, wife to her brother who passed away in March from having dementia, Sharon Holland who was Mel's baby sister and her special friend Vernon and dear friends Kathy Crawford and Louella Truex. Not to mention all the friends she made while in the Country Club nursing home where she passed away.
She was be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Foundation in Jean's memory.
Calling hours was be at Dowds ~ Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050; Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00pm. A Memorial Service was followed at 7:00pm with Pastor Rip Wright officiating.
