MOUNT VERNON — Robert E. “Bob” Moore, 101, of Mount Vernon passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on Nov. 3, 1921, in Mount Vernon to the late Curtis O. and Ida (Ludi) Moore.
Bob was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He served in Africa, Italy, Germany and France with the Army Corps of Engineers, rebuilding seaports and bridges for more than three years, returning home in November 1945. He returned to a profession of oil and gas drilling with CO Moore & Sons, a profession that spanned four generations and later became Moore Drilling Co. His remarkable century-long life included five living generations of family. Bob was a member of the American Legion and Mount Vernon Elks #140.
Bob and his wife, Eileen, were married for 79½ years. Bob was a kind and loving man and enjoyed spending time with his family, and all of those that he met. He will be greatly missed. Bob loved fishing and enjoyed his many trips to Canada and Lake Erie with his family. He also enjoyed spending time in Florida in the winter months with his Eileen and family. Mike and Marcia had the honor and joy of caring for Bob in their home.
He is survived by his three sons, Gary (Diane) Moore of Centerburg, and Don Moore and Michael (Marcia) Moore, both of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren, Brian, Heather, Jennifer and Cory; six great-grandchildren, Andrea, Matthew, Ellie, Keira, Raegan and Bray; along with four great-great-grandchildren, Jayce, Brileigh, Emersyn and Ensley.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Moore; sisters, Lucille Stuller and Marjorie Boyle; and a brother, Richard Moore.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 28, from 4-7 p.m. at Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel and one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with military graveside honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
