MOUNT VERNON – Marilyn A. “Molly” Schouten, 83, of Mount Vernon passed away on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2022, at Country Club Nursing Home in Mount Vernon. She was born on July 5, 1939, in Mount Vernon, the daughter of Encil and Mary (Ransom) Fletcher. 

Molly retired in 2001 after 20 years of employment with Cooper Energy Services in Mount Vernon. She also worked at Kenyon College, Swetlic Chiropractic and 16 years with her daughter at Rhythms of Life. In the mid '80s, Molly owned and operated the Sweet Shop in downtown Mount Vernon and was a proud member of the Mount Vernon Women of Business. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed by her family.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce D. Schouten, whom she married on Nov. 21, 1959; her children, Deb Schouten of Mount Vernon and Michael (Julie) Schouten of Placida, Fla.; six grandchildren, Erin Cramer, Nick (Halie Chaffin) Schouten, Halie (Mark Porter) Schouten, Sam (Madi Metcalfe) Schouten, Amelia Schouten and Henry Schouten; and four great grandchildren, Makayla Schouten, Avery Cramer, Bentley Schouten and Lainey Lewis.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Janis Diane Marconi; and a brother, Ned Fletcher.

Friends may call on Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, OH 43050, where a Celebration of Life service will begin at 2 p.m. The family will observe a private burial in Mound View Cemetery.
