Armrose drives in seven as Golden Knights sweep Redbirds
Andrew Armrose drove three runs in the first game and four more in game two, to lead Northmor to a doubleheader sweep over Loudonville, 5-3 and 11-1, on April 23.
In the opener, the Redbirds got on the board with three runs in the top of the first on two hits, a walk and an error, and the Knights answered with two in the bottom of the frame on a hit batter, a single by Griffin Workman, a productive run-scoring ground out by Armrose and a passed ball.
With the score tied 3-3 in the fifth, a one-out single by Max Lower, a walk to Workman and a passed ball put Northmor on top 4-3. With two out, Armrose singled in a run to give Northmor a 5-3 lead.
Starter Jack Sears settled down after the rocky first and shut down the Redbirds the rest of the way, finishing the complete game by allowing six hits and two earned runs in seven innings of work. He walked two and struck out three, throwing 101 pitches.
Armrose led the Golden Knight 5-hit attack with two hits and three RBIs.
In Game 2, Armeose followed up his run production in the opener with four more RBIs in the nightcap to seal the sweep for Northmor, 11-1.
The Knights were up 2-1 when they put six runs on the board in the fifth. Trevor Ramos led off the fifth with a single, and Lower and Workman followed with singles to load the bases. Grant Bentley walked to force in a run. Armrose singled in two runs on a liner to left, and Garrett Corwin walked to reload the bases. Bohdi Workman singled in a run, and Drew Hammond singled in another, followed by a run-scoring looper by Marcus Cortez. Three more Golden Knights runs in the six extended the rout.
Northmor outhit the Redbirds 13-4, with Armrose connecting for three hits and Cortez, Bentley and Griffin Workman bashing out a pair each. Workman also worked five innings on the mound, allowing an unearned run on four hits.
Northmor improved to 9-2 on the season.
Trojans score handfuls early, sink Pirates 17-5
Cardington-Lincoln scored two in the top of the first, but Centerburg put up a handful of runs in the first and an additional five in the second to take a 10-2 lead April 24 en route to a 17-5 victory. Centerburg followed its early onslaught with three in the third and four in the fourth for a runaway win.
The Pirates started well, scoring two runs in the first on a one-out error and three consecutive singles. The Trojans answered with a one-out triple by Jarred Rings, a run-scoring ground out by Grayson Reynolds, two singles and then a triple by Jesse Rings. Two more singles made the haul five runs. The Trojans added five more in the second on a lead-off walk to Jarred Rings, a single by Grayson Reynolds, a hit batter, a double by Isiah Reynolds, another hit batter and a single by Reed Compton to make it 10-2.
The Trojans accounted for 16 hits. Compton went 4-for-4, Isiah Reynolds went 3-for-3 and three batters collected two hits each. Caylan LeMaster drove in four runs, and Dalton Hall went 2-for-2 with a home run. Wyatt Wade and Caden Dewitt each had two of Cardington’s six hits.
Centerburg is now 10-1 on the year, and Cardington-Lincoln is 3-6.
Freddies erupt for 18-run second in 24-1 onslaught over Mifflin
The Fredericktown Freddies clearly outpunched the Mifflin Punchers on April 21 with a resounding 24-1 victory that saw an 18-run second inning by the Freddies.
The game started innocently enough with a two-run Freddies first on a single by Trevor Jobes, a one-run double by Brady Lester and a two-out error. Fredericktown made it 6-0 after two as an error and two singles brought in one run and Brady Lester homered in drive in three more.
At 6-0, the historic third inning started for Fredericktown with a double by Luke Bean, a walk and a single by Teegan Ruhl to load the bases. Five consecutive singles and two walks made it 13-0, and three more singles and two walks made it 18-0 with 15 consecutive batters reaching base. It wasn’t over. A single, two walks and a single made it 21-0 and 19 straight base runners, when Bean’s second single of the inning (he also walked once) ended with a runner thrown out at the plate for out No. 1. Two more singles and two more walks ended an 18-run assault with a runner caught on the base paths for out No. 3.
The Freddies outhit the Punchers 20-2 and out walked them 9-1. Twelve Freddies connected for hits, with eight players getting two hits apiece. Twelve Freddies scored, with Bean crossing the plate three times, and Lester and Jaxen Doup each drove in four runs to lead the 11 Fredericktown batters who had RBIs. Nick Mitchell and Doup each pitched two innings of one-hit ball, and each struck out five.
The Freddies finished the game with a 7-2-1 record this season.
