MOUNT VERNON – A senior art exhibit, “Surface Level,” is open at Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Schnormeier Gallery through April 28. An opening reception for the seniors will be held at the gallery on April 22 from 6-8 p.m.

“Exploring the metaphorical and physical surface, the exhibit studies how far to dive beneath the surface as it observes each piece and its materials,” a press release said. “This group exhibition depicts various motifs, such as a bedroom, a geode, a train car, and a dog’s mouth. Through mediums such as oil paints and resin, the exhibit pushes viewers to accept what is on the surface while simultaneously compels them to look deeper.”

The following seniors have art in the exhibit:

  • Abbi Hurst – Painting and Mixed Media
  • Riley Moody – Painting
  • Emily Mutchler – Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture
  • Acacia Peterson – Painting and Sculpture
The Schnormeier Gallery is located at 221 S. Main St., Mount Vernon, on the first floor of MVNU’s Buchwald Center. It is open Monday through Friday, from 1-5 p.m. For more information, contact the Schnormeier gallery at artgallery@mvnu.edu.
