KNOX COUNTY – The Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Thursday, March 17, at approximately 2:22 p.m., on State Route 229 and U.S Route 62, Harrison Township.

Donald Duncan, 89, of Howard, was operating a gold 2003 Toyota Camry westbound on State Route 229. Dixie Greenfield, 62 of Brinkhaven, was operating a gold 2011 Dodge Durango southbound on U.S Route 62. Mrs. Greenfield was accompanied by a front passenger, William Greenfield, 62, of Brinkhaven, in the front passenger seat.

Mr. Duncan failed to yield from a stop sign, entered the intersection and was struck by Mrs. Greenfield’s vehicle. Mr. Duncan’s vehicle and Mrs. Greenfield’s vehicle came to final rest on the southwest edge of U.S Route 62.  Mr. Duncan and the Greenfields were conscious and alert being treated by Eastern Knox EMS. 

Mr. Duncan was later pronounced deceased at Ohio State University Hospital. Mrs. Greenfield and Mr. Greenfield sustained minor injuries and were treated at the Knox Community Hospital. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Eastern Knox EMS. 

The traffic crash remains under investigation by the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
