LOCK – William B. Bentz, 79, of Lock passed away Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022, at home. He was in the care of ProMedica Hospice.

Bill loved spending time with his children and grandchildren on his farm in Lock. He especially enjoyed any opportunity to try out a new pizza place, but always eagerly awaited another trip to Massey's Pizza! Bill encouraged his children and grandchildren to travel. He took many trips with his family over the years, teaching them to spread their wings and travel to new places and try new restaurants. His favorite destination was Las Vegas and he even went to New Zealand to learn about grass farming. His love for great food inspired him to open up pizza shops and restaurants in both Licking and Delaware counties.

He was preceded in death by parents Charles and Carolyn Bentz of Pataskala; a brother, Charles of Warren, OH; and a granddaughter, Anna Wright. He is survived by his children Jeffrey (Jerina) Bentz, Tracy (Ryan) Wright, Jason (Meghan) Bentz and Natalie Bentz. Stepchildren David Smith, Kristie Eakin, and Wesley Eakin. Grandchildren Gabi (Matt) Walton, Kami, and Seth Bentz, Alaina and Gavin Wright, Morgan and Emma Bentz, Matthias Bentz; and a sister, Julie Brown of Sunman, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was a member of the Ohio National Guard. He was the owner of a Standard Oil Company (Sohio) station in Columbus. He also owned Farmers Wholesale and Restaurant in Utica, Farmers Restaurant in Sunbury, and TriCounty Salvage, in addition to an extensive farming operation. His family will dearly miss his requests for a Pepsi on ice and him telling them, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and let us not forget his love for a good stick donut from Auddinos.

There will be a private family gathering.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Meals on Wheels of Knox County, 182 W. Houck St., Centerburg, OH 43011.
