The Centerburg High School Drama Department will present the musical “Newsies” on Friday, Feb. 25, and Saturday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m. and again on Sunday, Feb. 27, at 2:30 p.m. in the Centerburg High School auditorium at 3782 Columbus Road.

Set in turn-of-the century New York City, “Newsies” is the tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teen-aged "newsies." When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what's right.

The lead roles of Jack Kelly and Katherine Plumber will be played by junior Jasper Faught and senior Meredith Morgan.

The cast includes seniors Cecilia Carlisle, Isabella Fink, Luke Grandstaff, Sequoia Hein Byerly and Tristan Manley, as well as juniors Logan Costa, Judith Dettmar, Emilee Fletcher, Alyssa Harry, Autumn Kennedy, Madigan Kennedy, Max Maffett, Alaina Montgomery and Annelise Nash.

Sophomore cast members include Charlie Ach, Maddie Donabauer and Kyle Schmidt, and freshman cast members are Gabby Bowens, Layna Brooks, Chloe Evans, Ashley Moore, Caroline Nash and Bella Stover.

The cast also includes middle-schoolers Rigby Arter, Miles Bishop, Layke Burke, Ryder Copley, Molly Hartman, Asher Kennedy, Carly Law, Arianna McKee, Grace Neighborgall and Payton Tucker.

Tickets for "Newsies" are $10 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens. Tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the show, starting an hour prior to the show. All tickets are general admission, and no passes or discounts will be accepted. For ticketing or any additional information, call the Centerburg High School office at 740-625-6055.

"Newsies" is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI. Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, “Newsies” features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Featuring the now classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” “Newsies” is packed with thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience.
