Freddies rally in second half to down Bulldogs 57- 42

Trailing at halftime, Fredericktown (6-2, 3-1 KMAC) took command in the second half and defeated East Knox (3-4, 2-3 KMAC), 57-42, Wednesday night at East Knox. Both teams were methodical with their possessions and took care of the ball, with the Bulldogs committing only six turnovers and the Freddies only seven turnovers all game.

The Freddies took a three-point lead after one quarter at 12-9 on three deuces by Jill Bouton. Laura Keith sank a long three for East Knox. The Bulldogs took a halftime lead of 29-24 on a strong second quarter run of 20-12, despite seven points by the Freddies’ Gabby Daniels. The Bulldogs’ second quarter was spearheaded by Alexandria Magers, who put in 12 points, including two from 3-point range. Keith also hit another three for East Knox.

The third quarter was all Freddies, as their 21-8 performance gave them a 45-37 lead going into the fourth. Leading the third-quarter charge was Daniels with eight, Audrey Bouton with eight and Cally Carpenter, who hit a rainbow three.

A slow-paced fourth quarter saw Fredericktown increase the margin with a 12-6 frame. Four Freddies scored and Jill Bouton nailed a three, while Keith drained her third three for the Bulldogs.

Fredericktown was led by Daniels with 19 points, Audrey Bouton with 14, Jill Bouton with 11 and Carpenter with nine. East Knox got double figures from Magers with 15 points, Shanda Melick with 12 and Keith with 11.

 

Blue Devils control Lady Trojans, 53- 42

Danville improved to 4-2 and 2-2 in KMAC as they controlled play against Centerburg (1-6, 0-4 KMAC) during a 53-42 victory Wednesday. The first quarter saw balanced scoring, with Danville taking a 10-7 lead. Alyssa Harris drained a three for Centerburg. Danville took a 24-18 lead in the second and got scoring from six girls in the quarter, while Centerburg got five points each from Kayla Larimore and Chloe Goulter. Alenah Boeshart led the Blue Devils with eight at halftime.

In an even 14-14 third quarter, Brooklyn Hess scored eight for Danville and Larimore and Clara Johnson each hit for five. A team effort saw six Danville girls score in the fourth as they increased the lead by five.

Boeshart scored 16 for Danville, and Brooklyn Hess had 14. Larimore led Centerburg with 13, and Johnson scored 10.

 

Cardington-Lincoln standout Hardwick to announce college destination

Beth Hardwick, Cardington-Lincoln’s top-scoring senior, is going to conduct her college signing Saturday at 11:15 (before C-L’s matchup with Fredericktown) at Cardington-Lincoln High School.

Hardwick, the 5-foot-9-inch guard, has led the Pirates to a 7-0 start and 4-0 in KMAC play. She is coming off a 20-point, eight-rebound, three-assist game vs. Danville. In her first seven games this season, Hardwick is averaging 17.4 points per game, seven rebounds and two assists. She also has a average of 3.6 steals and 0.4 blocks per game and is hitting 47% of her shots from the floor -- 51% from two-point range at 32-for-63 and 42% from 3-point range at 15-for-36. She hit for 25 points against Pleasant, Nov. 27, and 20 against Danville, Dec. 11, with 19-point games against Ridgedale, Nov. 20, and East Knox, Dec. 4.
