ASHLAND – Hospice of North Central Ohio has received a grant in the amount of $5,000 from the S.N. & Ada Ford Foundation in Mansfield, Ohio.

The grant will be used to fund the purchase of equipment that will help HNCO initiate a HFCWO Therapy program for hospice and palliative care patients in Richland County who are experiencing serious acute and chronic respiratory issues.

Deb Leber, RN case manager said, “This new device will help us to provide great care and service to our patients.”

The SmartVest Airway Clearance System delivers rapidly repeating pulses of air that gently squeeze and release the upper body, causing mucus to loosen, thin and propel toward major airways, where it is easier to cough out.

The SmartVest Airway Clearance System is designed to provide effective bronchiectasis and COPD symptom relief and help patients get back to breathing easier.

Ralph Tomassi, HNCO chief development officer, said, “We are grateful for and benefit from philanthropists like Dr. Ada Ford, whose memory is perpetuated through the grants that are made possible through the trust she created. This particular grant certainly fits her wishes to provide for the health, comfort and care of the people of Richland County.”
