MOUNT VERNON – JoAnn Ewalt, 89, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Fredericktown, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2021, at Brookdale of Mount Vernon. She was born Jan. 13, 1932, in Mount Vernon to the late Louis and Imaz (Beever) Peugh.
JoAnn graduated in 1969 from the Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in education. She retired from Fredericktown School, where she taught for over 28 years. JoAnn was a member of the Berlin United Methodist Church near Fredericktown. She was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles in her spare time. JoAnn and her late husband, William, were Ohio State football season ticket holders for many years and rarely missed a game.
JoAnn is survived by her children, JoLynn (Robert) Yoder of Canal Fulton, Daniel Ewalt of Fredericktown and Karen Ewalt of Lakeside, Ca.; grandchildren, John Yoder, Tracey Yoder, Tim (Rachel) Yoder, Anya (Mitch Bedola) Garman and Carina Rojas; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Ewalt, on Sept. 29, 2006; a daughter, Joyce Rojas, in 2018; and her siblings, Aretus, James, Evenall, Dorothy, Alice and Martha.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, in Mound View Cemetery, Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Keith Rasey officiating.
