MOUNT VERNON – In honoring Griffin Insurance Agency owner Michael Percy with the 2020 Walter Rudin Award, Main Street Mount Vernon (MSMV) is recognizing a leader whose involvement traces back a quarter century.
Percy, who received the Rudin Award July 1 during a ceremony at the Woodward Opera House, was honored for his “long-term commitment to downtown Mount Vernon and the community,” according to an MSMV press release. Park National Bank sponsors the award.
After purchasing Griffin Insurance in 1997, Percy built a legacy of community service that includes playing “an instrumental role” in creating the 250-acre Ariel-Foundation Park, a key visitor draw downtown, as well as leading efforts to renovate the Historic CA&C Depot, where MSMV houses its offices. Percy’s service as a past president of the Rotary Club of Mount Vernon helped raise funds for an event that brought hundreds of people on to Main Street, the release said.
Now serving on the Cooper Park Development Corporation, Percy focuses on bringing business and energy to the West High Street area of downtown, and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce.
“As a past board member of Main Street Mount Vernon, Michael’s commitment to our downtown is evident,” the release stated.
Percy supports MSMV’s work with First Fridays, and is willing to help with guidance and advice when called upon.
“Michael Percy is there through means of revitalization and continues to build a legacy for Downtown Mount Vernon and Knox County,” according to the release.
