MARENGO – Ruth “Virginia” Kenney, 98, of Marengo, passed away Friday afternoon, May 28, 2021, at Bennington Glen. She was born in Kingston Township, Ohio, on April 12, 1923, to the late Vinal and Maggie (Hicks) Owen.
Virginia graduated from Centerburg High School in 1941. She was a longtime Delaware County resident and worked at Nestle’s in Sunbury for 10 years. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cross stitching and upholstering. Virginia was a 50-year member of the Porter Grange and also a member of the “Ye Olde” Garden Club and the Grace Baptist Church in Delaware. Above all, her greatest love was spending time with her family.
She is survived by her sons, J.C. (Debbie) Ransom of Sunbury and Richard (Elisa) Kenney of Marengo; grandchildren, Troy, Tony, Stacey, Averie, Sanna and Artea; great-grandchildren, Griffin, Grace, Lyra, Ally and Levi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Arthur “Art” Kenney in 2003; foster parents, Jerome and Fern Bird; foster brothers, Verner and Virgil Bird; brothers, Ray and Robert Owen; sister, Elizabeth Rhoads; and a half-brother, Ronald Owen.
The family will receive friends from 5–8 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, State Route 3 at 61 in Sunbury, where services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 4. Interment will follow in East Liberty Cemetery.
