MOUNT VERNON – Joe Barnard, 78, from Mount Vernon (Fairway Drive), was one of the bridge bidding winners in the American Contract Bridge League’s monthly contest (for March).
Joe is a Gold Life Master who was ranked in the top 500 players in North America for six straight years from 1983 to 1988.
There were 33 winners from the 786 worldwide contests. One winner was from Great Britain, one was from Poland, three were from Canada. There were three winners from Ohio (unusual; most months there are zero or perhaps one winner from Ohio).
Joe has played in many national tournaments and one world championship. He is mostly retired from bridge today but does play once or twice a week in Columbus (the Columbus Bridge Club has been closed for about a year now due to COVID-19).
