Memorial Day services return to Centerburg with 21-gun salute

CENTERBURG – A procession and program honoring fallen U.S. soldiers will be held in Centerburg on Memorial Day, May 31.

The Centerburg American Legion Post 460 will hold the event beginning 11 a.m. at the Eastview Cemetery in Centerburg. The keynote speaker will be Maj. Gen. Dennis Laich, USA Retired.

In the custom of the community walking together to the cemetery, the Legion Color Guard will lead a procession of local Scouts and the Centerburg High School Band at 10:45 a.m., starting at the corner of Church Street and Hartford Avenue.

All are invited to walk with this group, join at any part of the procession or meet at the cemetery, the ceremony site. The program will last approximately 30 minutes and conclude by honoring those who died in service to our country with a 21-gun salute and the playing of “Taps.” 

Lawn chairs are encouraged for those requiring them.
