MOUNT VERNON – Nancy Jean Tier, 85, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021, at the Laurels of Mount Vernon. She was born on Nov. 5, 1935, in Mount Vernon, the daughter of Reva and Jean (Thompson) Barncord.

Nancy was a 1953 graduate of Mount Vernon High School and a 1955 graduate of the Mount Vernon Business School. She worked as a medical stenographer for Mercy Hospital and Knox Surgical before retiring in 2001 from Kenyon College. 

Nancy was a member of the Newark Road Church of Christ and spent numerous hours volunteering with activities her family was involved in. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother who will always be remembered for her kind heart and great sense of humor. 

She is survived by her husband, Harold Tier, whom she married on Jan. 1, 1961; her children, Steve (Kris) Tier of Mount Vernon, Russell Tier of Columbus and Bryan (Anne) Tier of Logan; five grandchildren, Amanda, Megan, Nicholas, Caroline and Abbey; a brother, Gary (Ellen) Barncord of Ontario; special friend, Beverly Lahmon; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Dale Tier and Earl Tier, both of Mount Vernon, and Alice Jean (Paul) Smith and Ruth Johnson, both of Gambier; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by two sisters, Sue Barncord and JoAnn Bush.

The family will observe a private graveside service in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
