MOUNT VERNON – Jake Glover crushed two home runs to lead the Mount Vernon Nazarene University baseball team to a lopsided 23-0 victory over Wright State-Lake in seven innings in non-conference play on Tuesday, April 6, in Mount Vernon.
Glover hit a two-run home run to give the Cougars (17-13) all the runs they needed. He added a three-run homer in the second inning as MVNU pushed its lead to 8-0. The big flies were Glover’s seventh and eighth of the season.
Luke Tucker (three innings), Noah Gleason (three innings) and Bo Wilson (one inning) combined for the three-hit shutout. Gleason struck out eight batters and allowed one hit to earn the win.
Hogan Heck and Chris Kline both went deep as well. Heck led off the sixth inning with his first home run of the year. Kline added a two-run shot two batters later for his first of the year. The Cougars scored 15 runs in the inning.
Kline finished with three hits, four RBIs and three runs; Damien Kandel had two hits, three RBIs and two runs; and Aaron Saal had three hits, two RBIs and a run for MVNU.
Conor Schmitt led the Lakers (11-10) on offense with a hit and a walk; and Tanner Crowle suffered the loss on the mound, giving up seven runs (all earned) over 1 1/3 innings.
