MOUNT VERNON – John R. “Jack” McNeil Jr., 91, of Mount Vernon passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on July 7, 1929, in Mount Vernon to the late John R. and Genevieve (Burgess) McNeil Sr.
Jack honorably served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. He was a meat cutter and retired from Neff’s Cardinal Market. Jack was an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Jack is survived by his stepson, John S. Ewalt Jr.; step grandson, Jason (Yolanda) Ewalt; a step great granddaughter, Briana Ewalt; brother, Charles (Roberta) McNeil; sister, Claudia Berger; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara A. McNeil; and a sister, Joan Adams.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 12, in Mound View Cemetery with Mr. Roger Marra officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
