They’re called utility task vehicles (UTVs) for a reason.
You can use them to clear snow or to haul firewood or for trail riding or any number of other tasks around the farm or yard.
“We have farmers using them to pull hay wagons,” said Duane Wiford, sales manager of Holmes Rentals and Sales in Mount Vernon.
Holmes, a family-owned business, has vehicles on site for purchase and they’re going fast.
“I’ve just sold two his week,” he said. “We have inventory in stock and more are coming in.”
One of the brands Holmes sells is Yanmar, a Japanese tractor company.
“They’ve added a UTV line to complement their tractors,” Wiford said.
Holmes offers three models of Yanmars: Bulls, Longhorns and Brahmas.
“Bulls and Longhorns are gas,” Wiford said. “The Brahmas are diesel. Yanmar diesel engines are world-renowned for best fuel efficiency and cold-weather start.”
Holmes also carries Cub Cadet UTV models.
Sales and service of UTVs are offered, but Holmes no longer rents them.
Prices start at around $10,000 and increase depending on accessories. Those accessories can include windshields, wenches, snow plows, mirrors, turn signals, rear windows and heaters.
“Some of our gas units have more than 150 accessories for them,” Wiford said. “We don’t have quite that many for diesels yet. Most people will buy a windshield. It kind of keeps the bugs out of your eyes and out of your face.”
UTVs can seat as few as two and as many as six people. Gasoline units can go as fast as 50 mph and diesels about 30 mph.
Holmes offers financing for up to 84 months on UTVs.
Although it no longer rents UTVs, Holmes does offer rentals on a wide array of equipment to customers ranging from do-it-yourself homeowners to construction contractors. That includes excavators and skid-steer loaders, which are hot rental items. If purchased new, some of that equipment could range in price from $40,000 to $100,000.
In addition to the Mount Vernon location, Holmes has two other locations in Ohio: one in Millersburg and another in Sugarcreek.
