MOUNT VERNON – Dorothy A. Pauley, 80, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, at Knox Community Hospital. She was born on June 16, 1940, in Martinsburg to the late Chambers and Wilma (Mills) Johns.
Dorothy retired from the Mount Vernon Developmental Center after 25 years of service. She was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #760, Mount Vernon. Dorothy was an avid bird watcher and cook, but her greatest passion was spending time with her grandkids.
She is survived by her daughter, Tina (Scott Schumaker) Metzger of Hebron; son, Robert (Cindy) Rothgeb of Lexington; grandchildren, Robyn Carpenter, Derek Blubaugh, Tristen Metzger, Jamie Boone, Molly Blair, Logan Rothgeb, Griffin Rothgeb, Delaney Rothgeb, Jillian Cordial and Samantha Rothgeb; great-grandchildren, Mason DeBoard, Theodore DeBoard, Audrey Rothgeb and Hailey Blubaugh; sisters, Patty Yarman (Dewey) Bandy of Mount Vernon and Norma Myers of Mount Vernon; stepbrother, John Saunders of Mount Vernon; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her stepfather, Loren Dunham; a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Bruce Blair; a son, David Rothgeb; a sister, Lois Dunham Bridgeman; and a brother-in-law, Stephen Yarman (Mount Vernon Santa Claus).
The family will have a celebration of life service at a later date. Dorothy will be laid to rest beside her son, David, in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
