The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution urges Americans to reflect on the United States Constitution during September's annual observance to honor the document that is the foundation of our national government.

The Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution are two documents of greatest importance to our American history. Our July 4 celebrations should remind us of our striving to be free of England's domination. The Constitution provides the basis for our federal government as it still functions today. 233 years later, it should be celebrated for being the framework that continues to provide the guidance for our country since 1787.

The Lucy Knox Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, recognizes the importance of the U.S. Constitution with a display at the main library on North Mulberry Street. The ladies also provide a kit of instructional materials to elementary classrooms across Knox County. The mission of DAR to educate about patriotism is met with these two activities.
