GAMBIER — Nellie Ellen Lorraine Carper, 97, longtime resident of Gambier, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2019, at the residence of her son, Stan Goudy, in Lakeland, Florida, where she has resided since March 3, 2018.
Nellie was born July 9, 1922, in Elizabeth, West Virginia, the daughter of Harvey Joy and Tintcy Lovada Jenkins Joy.
She was an avid bowler, winning many trophies. She read her bible through each year for several years. She attended the Community Christian Church (CCF) with her husband Earl Carper when possible.
In addition to her parents Nellie was preceded in death by her husbands, Ralph W. Goudy, Victor Lillstrang and Earl Carper; her daughter, Wanita Richards; grandson Kevin Goudy; granddaughter, Tonya Goudy; and son-in-law, William Harding.
She is survived by her children, Johnny Goudy, Harvey Goudy (Ginny), Stanley Goudy (Marsha), Jean Booth (Richard), Karen DeLong (Richard) and Margaret Harding; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and sisters, Ruth Ann Collins (Davie) and Audrey Little (Thomas). In addition to her own children, she also raised her grandchildren, Sandy, Debbie and Mike, from babies into adulthood.
Calling Hours are Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, from 10-11 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. Burial to follow in Workman Cemetery, Danville.
