MVNU to host Central Ohio Honors Choir Festival

MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Nazarene University is proud to host the 2019 District 10 Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) Honors Choir Festival Saturday, Nov. 9. The event will feature young vocalists from Ashland, Coshocton, Delaware, Holmes, Knox, Licking, Morrow and Richland counties from 15 participating schools.

The event features high school and middle school honor choirs. To be eligible, students must be nominated by their director. The day will feature a morning of instruction and will culminate with a final concert at 3:30 p.m., in the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium on the MVNU campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

Eric Richardson will direct the high school honors choir. Known in the choral world for his outstanding work with choirs at every level, Richardson has served in multiple positions at schools, churches, and on the OCDA board. He has also served the district often as an adjudicator at OMEA Solo & Ensemble and Large Group Contest.

Larry Griffin will direct the middle school honors choir. From 1991 until his retirement in 2013, he was director of choral music at Worthington Kilbourne High School. He now leads the Mansfield Symphony Chorus, the St. Charles Preparatory School’s men’s ensemble and assists in preparing the choir at New Hope Reformed Church. A past district president of the OMEA, Griffin has served in many OMEA events as an adjudicator, director of honors choir festivals and clinician. He is currently serving as the artistic director of Capriccio Columbus.
