Man found near Kokosing River this morning

MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Police Department responded to a call Friday morning that an unresponsive male had been found behind the Comfort Inn.
A photo of the man wrapped in blankets was circulated on social media, with many believing the man to be dead. Both Chief Chad Christopher of the Mount Vernon Fire Department and Captain McKnight of the Mount Vernon Police Department confirmed that the man was alive, but unconscious.
“He was breathing, had a pulse, he was just cold,” said Christopher.
McKnight told the News that the man was transferred to Knox Community Hospital to be treated for hypothermia. He was later flown to the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus for further treatment.
Police have chosen not to publicly identify the man at this time out of respect for any potential next-of-kin. The police department will be following up on the case.
