MOUNT VERNON — James Clinton Fawcett, born April 16, 1941, passed away peacefully (but if you knew him, not quietly) at his home in Florida on Tuesday, June 18, 2019.
Jim never met a person he couldn’t talk to and made friends wherever he went. The word stranger was not in his vocabulary. His smile was unforgettable and his laugh was contagious.
He was an avid fisherman, a so-so golfer in his latter years, a tinkerer of all things and a tale-teller extraordinaire. His tales were always bigger than life and entertaining, just like he was.
Jim left behind his wife of 33 years, Doris, the mother of his children, Ila, and his dog, Ava. And yes, I had to list the dog before the kids. He will be missed beyond belief by his children, Jimmy, Phaedra and Abby and Joe, Janice and Karen and all of their families. And of course, the last of the clan to survive him, sisters Irene Gadd and Nancy O’Brien.
His grandchildren couldn’t have had a better role model. He had a heart of gold and love enough to share with all of them. They were the joy of his life and he was so very proud of each of them. Elijah, Ethan, Levi, Darian, Marina, Kylah, Luke, Jessica, McKenzie, Robbie, Chelsea, Chase and Clayton will never forget the funniest, most giving and loving grandpa that walked the earth.
Of course we can’t forget all the nieces and nephews that were graced with his jovial laughter and orneriness.
God has gained the rowdiest angel to set foot in Heaven for a long time. His family waiting for him there are already dealing the cards. And if you knew him, you would know that he is cheating at whatever they are playing.
Instead of goodbye, he would always say “I’m glad you got to see me.” And we were!
Godspeed Dad, with love from all of us.
A celebration of his life will be held in July at his daughter’s home in Mount Vernon.
