“I haven’t used it a whole lot but have used it on occasion. I mean, I’m thankful for what we have, MOTA (Mid Ohio Transit Authority, now Knox Area Transit). We had more taxi companies but I think some of them have gone out of business. Considering the number of bars and alcohol establishments we have in the city, we could probably use more taxis. Because KAT only runs during the day. I have had to use them on occasion to go to doctor’s appointments when my car wasn’t working. I know my neighbor kids ride it every morning to school because their parents can’t transport them. But I do think we need more in the evening for drivers who have been drinking.” — Lisa Griffith, Mount Vernon
“No there’s not. For one thing, after about 7 or 8 (p.m.) there’s nothing, you know. They quit running the shuttles. And there’s very little taxi service.” Glenn Murphy, Mount Vernon
“This is kind of ironic, but I work for a Medicaid dental office. And we have a lot of trouble with the transportation. I see both sides of the spectrum, so it’s hard to pinpoint which side I stand on. I think a lot of our patients have trouble with it being reliable, so I guess that would be my answer. I think that there’s a lot of people who depend on it, and we get a lot of calls about canceled appointments that (transit) didn’t show up or couldn’t be there at a certain time. But at the other end of it, I certainly understand that maybe they can’t make their schedule to pick them up. I think the transit is there, I just think it can be improved. I know a lady who waited two to two and-a-half hours for a ride that was supposed to be there on time.” — Lindsey Sheldon, Howard
“Well, they’ve got quite a few transits here in Mount Vernon plus the taxis. There’s plenty of transit here for Mount Vernon with KAT.” — David Alberts, Mount Vernon
“Probably. I don’t use it so I really don’t know too much about it. I mean, you know, when the town gets bigger you need more (public transit).” — Dale Barrick, Mount Vernon
“Well, I don’t use it but I know people that use it. And it seems to work for them. I believe it’s KAT.” — Darren Phillis, Bladensburg
