April kicks off a month of celebrations to honor libraries and literacy, the first of which was National School Librarian Day on April 4, followed by National Library Day on April 6. Other designated days are April 16, National Librarians Day, and the week of April 23, National Library Week.

The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County will present two special events featuring acclaimed author Daniel Mark Epstein to kick off National Poetry Month.

This year marks the 34th year of The Knox Public Library campaigning for Food For The Hungry. While The Knox Public Library is no longer charging fines, they are continuing to collect food and funds in support of the annual Food For The Hungry Drive from Nov. 7 through Dec. 3.

On Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7 p.m. the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County presents a panel discussion with the Knox County Board of Elections staff on "How Elections Work in Knox County."

“Banned Books Week” is coming up September 19-24, and the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County is pleased to announce a new partnership with international literary organization, PEN America.

The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County has a special treat lined up for patrons on Tuesday, Aug. 9 when it welcomes Toledo, Ohio-based poets Joey Kim and Ayendy Bonifacio.

On Friday, July 15, the parking lot at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County (PLMVKC) teemed with music, laughter and sno-cones to celebrate the Summer Reading Program, "Ocean of Possibilities." Library staff and program sponsors Park National Bank collaborated to present an afternoon of outdoor fun for patrons, with Children's Floor Manager Erica Newton reporting that the closing party included temporary tattoos, a photo booth, sand art, carnival games with prizes like sea shell whistle, kickball, sea creature finger puppets, or finger skateboards.

$10,000 grant will help the library recover from the coronavirus pandemic

As snow starts to fall and the cold air sets in, there’s no better time to take a break from winter festivities and curl up with a good book.

The Mount Vernon and Knox County Public Library will hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting for the Wolf Run Storybook Trail, located at 17621 Yauger Road from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19.

A grant from the Knox Community Foundation made it possible for Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County patrons to get together or hold meetings under tents dubbed the “Outdoor Annex.”
