MOUNT VERNON — John B. Haxton, of Mount Vernon, passed away on his 84th birthday, Oct. 26, 2016, at Country Court Nursing Home. He was born Oct. 26, 1932, in Holmes County to Carl V. and Frances Irene (Williams) Haxton.

John was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was a member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, Thrall 170 Masonic Lodge in Fredericktown, York Rite Bodies, life member of the AMVETS, VFW, and American Legion. John was employed by the First Knox National Bank.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia (Wright) Haxton; one daughter, Carol (Mark) Boone of Fredericktown; two sons, John Haxton of Mount Vernon and Mike (Shirley) Haxton of Fredericktown; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Foster, Helen Haxton, and Karen Washburn.

Friends may call on Sunday from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Lasater Funeral Home, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon. Funeral Services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Warren Outhwaite officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery with military graveside honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
