ST. LOUISVILLE — Newton Elementary School was placed in precautionary lockdown Tuesday afternoon about 2:30 due to a law enforcement situation on Ohio 13 between Flamingo Drive and St. Joseph’s Road.

Superintendent Scott Hartley said the incident, which was less than a mile away from the school, delayed the release of Newton students, who were dismissed about 4:20 p.m., an hour later than usual. “All safety protocols were followed,” Hartley said, “and no students were in any danger at all.”
Law enforcement was called to the home on a domestic situation. It was reported that a woman and a child left the home prior to the sound of a gunshot. When Licking County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team members entered the home, with use of tear gas, they found a man with a fatal gunshot wound.

No further details of the incident had been released as of press time.
