Michael Leach, left, receives an award from manager Jane Allen in recognition of his 35 years of service as a Danville Post Office mail carrier.

DANVILLE — After 35 years of service as a rural mail-carrier at the Danville Post Office, Michael Leach has retired.

However, Leach’s history with the Danville Post Office goes back even further than his first date of employment.

“There were a lot of people that he took care of for years and years,” Leach’s former-manager, Jane Allen said. “They were really appreciative and they’re missing him now. I think that says a lot about the character of the man and the job he did.”

“I think the neat thing about Michael’s story is that he covered the same route as his father did as a mail carrier,” Allen continued. “His dad was the Brinkhaven carrier and then after he retired, Michael followed in his tracks.”
