MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon City School District ended fiscal year 2016 in very good shape.

Treasurer Judy Forney told the school board on Monday the balance for all funds at the end of the fiscal year was approximately $9 million, as opposed to approximately $6.7 million last fiscal year.

Forney said several things contributed to the increase in revenue. For example, the district received an additional $188,358 in Medicaid reimbursement (a settlement for 2012-13) and had a credit balance with Knox County Educational Service Center which resulted in a refund of $159,224.

Mount Vernon also received some bonus payments from the Ohio Department of Education for the prior year; a graduation bonus of $44,447 for a graduation rate of 88.4 percent and a Third Grade Reading bonus of $44,345.
