MVNU hosts free instrumental concert on October 11

Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) is set to host a concert featuring its instrumental ensembles on Saturday, October 11, at 1 p.m. in the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium. The event, organized by MVNU's Music Department, is open to the public with free admission.

The concert will begin with the MVNU Jazz Band, led by Mr. Chuck Dettmar. Their performance includes "Cross Roads," showcasing Seth Righter on baritone saxophone, and "Samantha" by Sammy Nestico, featuring lead alto saxophonist Jennifer Linker. The jazz band will conclude with "Northwoods Sunrise," a piece inspired by Northern Minnesota's forests.

Following the jazz band, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform works such as "Yosemite Autumn" by Mark Camphouse and "Rapture" by Brian Balmages. Their program will end with Katahj Copley's "Halcyon Hearts." Additionally, performances by the Flute Choir and String Ensemble are scheduled. The Flute Choir is directed by Mrs. Jennifer Packard and includes both students and community members.

MVNU welcomes Mr. Chris Japikse as the new director of the String Ensemble, bringing new energy to the group.
