MOUNT VERNON – Shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 10, 2021, after a full life of service to her family and Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, 93-year-old Nellie Irene “Nell” Clouston, slipped the bonds of her temporal home to fulfill her life's goal of meeting Jesus face to face. She is now reunited with the love of her life, John A. Clouston. Nell was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, on April 30, 1928, to Ernest and Doris Beard. On June 17, 1948, she married John Asher Clouston, and together, they made a home, raised three fine boys, and served the East Ohio Conference United Methodist Church, ministering as a team in multiple churches over five decades of service. Nell was John's right hand and partner in the ministry of serving the people for Christ.
Following John's death in 2017, Nell made it her continuing ministry to reach out to those God had led them to while in the service of The East Ohio Conference United Methodist Church. She wrote cards and letters of encouragement, made phone calls and even visited many shut-ins. At the youthful age of 91, as recently as 2019, Nell opened her home to various women's groups so they might encourage one another. Nell anticipated each day with a positive outlook, seeking to brighten someone else's day while sharing with them about her Savior. Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Doris Beard, husband John A. Clouston, and two sisters, Edith Joint and Jane Helster.
Nell is survived by her three sons, David Clouston of Columbus, Craig (daughter-in-love Nancy) Clouston of Brinkhaven and J. Scott Clouston of Newark; daughter-in-love Rose Ryan of Reynoldsburg; grandchildren, Eric Clouston, Lindsay (Corey) Alton and Julie (Tersh) Blissett; great-grandchildren, IV Blissett, Aaron Caplinger, Memphis and Addalyn Blissett, Jozlyn Alton and Joshua Alton; as well as nieces and nephews and their children. In consideration of the thousands of parishioners, friends and extended family who loved Nell, there was a private grave-side service, attended by immediate family, on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, in the Brandon United Methodist Cemetery.
