The Mount Vernon City Schools Board of Education has moved its regularly scheduled Board meeting on Monday, Sept. 20, at 6 p.m. from Energy Field House to Twin Oak Elementary School. The lower level doors will open at 5:45 p.m. with the meeting taking place in the cafeteria/auditorium.
The Board has also extended it’s Public Participation portion of the meeting from 15 minutes to 30 minutes, giving preference to parents of Mount Vernon City School students and district residents. Anyone interested in speaking to the board must register using the appropriate form prior to the board meeting at the sign-up table.
Mount Vernon City Schools recognizes the spirited and passionate feelings with regards to the temporary mask requirement. It is our desire to provide an atmosphere of respect and civility to allow concerns to be shared. Failure to model an atmosphere of respect and civility will not be tolerated.
On Sept. 2, 2021, Mount Vernon City Schools implemented a temporary mask requirement stating that all students, staff and visitors would be required to wear a mask while indoors during the normal school hours (7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.) and while on school transportation. School activities/events that are after school hours would remain mask optional.
The district also indicated that it would revisit the temporary mask requirement at the end of September. The Board is committed to adhering to that timeline and gathering as much information as possible. There will be no resolution or decision made with regards to the temporary mask requirement at Monday’s regularly scheduled board meeting.
Respectfully Submitted,
William Seder Jr.
Superintendent
