MOUNT VERNON — Mary Elizabeth Elder, 86, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Fredericktown, died Friday afternoon, April 11, 2014, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon. She was born Sept. 27, 1928, in Silver Run, W.Va., to the late Otis B. and Mary E. (Minks) Smith.
Mary was a member of Fredericktown Church of Christ and retired from the Foote Foundry in Fredericktown.
Mary is survived by her sons, Jack and his wife, Linda (McCullough) Elder of Lenoir City, Tenn., and Paul and his wife, Sue (Davis) Elder of Howard; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Bette Elder.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joseph W. Elder and sisters, Virginia Stahl and Gertrude Miller.
The family will have a graveside service today, at 2 p.m., in Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown with Pastor Tom Duncan officiating.
