MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon City Council approved over $30 million in appropriations Monday night to bring the city’s total spending allotment for the year to $41,316,271. Almost $10 million in appropriations were approved previously to provide the city with money to operate.

The measure finalizes months of work by department heads, city administration, the auditor’s office and members of city council. According to Terry Scott, city auditor, the city’s general fund holds $12 million.
