Geoff Cowles/News Mount Vernon’s Marah Staats returns a ball in a match against Delaware’s Lily Tope on Aug. 19 at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Staats won her match 7-5, 6-0, but the Yellow Jackets lost 3-2 to the rival Pacers, the middle of a three-game losing streak.

Staats a bright spot for Jackets’ tennis

The Mount Vernon girls tennis team hit a mid-season bump in the road. The Yellow Jackets dropped a pair of 3-2 decisions on Wednesday and Thursday, losing a mid-week home match to archrival Delaware at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, and then sustaining a tough loss on the road at Marysville on Friday.

Danville honors Honabarger

There was no way that the Ed Honabarger era was going to pass unnoticed in Blue Devil country. The Danville community paid tribute and said “thank you” to their longtime high school football coach, naming school’s field house “Ed Honabarger Fieldhouse” in his honor on Sunday.

Berg presented with one final accolade

In a ritual reserved for the end of a quarter at a football or basketball game, recent Mount Vernon High School graduate Cory Berg was presented with a ring to commemorate his Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches Division I state indoor championship.
