Larry Di Giovanni/News Susie Chrisman has folded The Sisterhood of the Traveling Quilt into a small square so that a photo image of her son, murder victim Jarrod Chrisman, along with his dates of birth and death, is visible. Susie belongs to a group of close-knitted parents called Parents of Murdered Children. The quilt travels between them throughout the year.

Quilt unites families of homicide victims

Every year for the past nine years, Susie Chrisman of Bladensburg has received a special quilt that keeps the memory of her son, Jarrod Chrisman of Mount Vernon, front and center in the minds of friends and family members — along with nine other young people from other parts of the country who are also displayed on the quilt.

Shellmar Park paving short on funds

Off-season work continues at Hiawatha Water Park. This week, a contractor replaced the caulking in the bottoms of all three pools, Parks Superintendent Dave Carpenter reported, and the bottoms will be painted when dry weather returns.
